The League #2

This week’s assignment for the League of Extraordinary Bloggers is:

You have an unlimited budget and space is not a problem. What piece of Hollywood memorabilia would you want hanging around in your batcave?

My first response was the treehouse from Swiss Family Robinson. But I would also really like the Dagobah set from The Empire Strikes Back; that would be fun to play around in. Of course having the Millenium Falcon would be rad too! I have always wanted a castle and thought about picking any number of castles that have been built for the movies. Actually, the more and more I think about it the more things pop into my head and it gets harder and harder to pick just one.
So I have decided to go with the one thing that has always stood out in my mind as one of  the most awesome sets ever built and one I would love to have and play around it and it is:

One-Eyed Willie’s Pirate ship and cave from the Goonies. I know I picked The Goonies for my last post but ever since I saw the movie I wanted my own pirate ship. I would make that pirate ship my house and studio (the wife and kids could have one of the caves..J/K) Not only do you get the ship, but an awesome cave full of water and caves with built-in water slides!

I like pirate ships so much my wife got me this for Valentine’s Day:

It was only $10-brand new, how could I pass it up?
So there it is, it’s very hard to pick just one. It would be cool to have Jabba’s sail barge, or the General Lee or a speeder bike, or the Star Trek bridge, or a Hobbit house, or a Kermit Muppet,  but I’ll stick with my Goonie cave; otherwise I’ll never be able to decide.

I still can’t get over the fact that Donner and Crew built that ship and dropped the kids into that set with no knowledge of what they were about to see. Lucky ducks.

I know right?! How awesome! After the movie they tried to give the ship away but couldn’t find anyone to take it so they destroyed it. How sad. Why didn’t they ask me?

  3. IAreGeek Says:

Nice choice. I can imagine why no one would have wanted it back then. Could you imagine the upkeep on something like that?

  4. admin Says:

I’d read somewhere they offered it to some theme parks which would have been perfect! I’m always amazed at prop and model builders who spend so much time building things and then have to watch them be destroyed our blown up on film. I think that would be hard to do

Gut wrenching to hear that the ship was destroyed. Hindsight being what it is, I think they probably wish they had made a different decision. That ship would make a great addition to an amusement park, or Hollywood tour, and it would also look pretty nice in my backyard. ;)
