Round Top Antiques Fair

Twice a year in Round Top TX and the nearby community of Warrenton there is a huge antique show. Most of it is outdoors and stretches for over a mile. We try to go at least once a year, often times twice.
I like to look at all the items for sale, taking pictures of unusual or interesting things and sometimes buying small knick knacks or cheap toys or books. It’s fun to walk amongst all the booths, looking for that one item that jumps out at you. It is also fun to see things I have never seen before, things I haven’t seen in years and things no longer needed or wanted. It is a neat history lesson; you can see tools and implements that we no longer use but were a necessity back in the day.

Tupa_friedOreos

There was a food vendor selling various fried foods so I had to try fried Oreos. Pretty tasty, the cookie actually gets soft from the heat and it basically tastes like a funnel cake; which I’m assuming is the type of batter they used. On a side note; fried Oreos are very hard to paint!

Tupa_mcD_playland

Just about every time I’ve been to this fair I’ve seen at least one piece of old McDonald’s Playland equipment. And every time I tell myself that one day I will buy one.

Tupa_showbiz

I saw awesome Showbiz Pizza this glass for $5. I was tempted to buy it but passed. I showed my brother this picture about 10 minutes after I took it and he wanted to see the glass so I took him to see it and it was gone! Darn- thinking maybe I should have bought it!

Tupa_hippo_ghost

I also saw this great sign: Hippo Size Drinks! They need to bring those back!! Next to that is a painting of a ghost shaped plastic bucket I saw. It was only $1 but I passed, still thinking maybe that wasn’t the best decision…

Tupa_tinyBooks

My daughter found these tiny doll house books for a quarter each. I am going to use them as a sketchbook. Should be a fun exercise, trying to draw something so tiny. I just need to find a fun theme for each of the books.

tupa_bike

We saw this tandem bike and I asked my daughter if she would pedal me around town if I bought it but she said no.

Tupa_church_library

In the town of Round Top, there is an old church that has been converted into a library. I took a peek through the windows and it looked really neat on the inside; even had the old hardwood floors!

tupa_tree

And finally I saw this neat retro Christmas tree. The decorations are shiny plastic squares and either silver, yellow or red.
